I saw The Ipcress File it must've been at least 20-30 years ago now, but I really did enjoy it. Possibly time to re-watch it now you reminded me of it. Interesting that came out (like the Prisoner) during the classic MK-Ultra time. I would imagine that's a very different type of mind control to the Monarch idea of starting with very young children and inducing MPD. I can certainly accept the idea that specifically selected children (e.g. offspring of the controllers) are subjected to (possibly simulated, with modern technology) trauma for a short period (say, 6-18 months) in order to induce a few dozen alters (or 33, perhaps), each of which is then very carefully given specific talents, so to speak. I think that's certainly feasible as well as psychologically realistic (there's a lot of this in my Katrina story, for fear of spoilers).

The older the subject/victim, though, the more difficult it is to get them to dissociate. So instead, as you suggest, with adults they'd go for the induced PTSD option. Psychic driving and learned helplessness etc.

My theory about how to do it on a collective population is to realise that each member of the population is still an individual and perceives things as an individual (especially following a neoliberal atomisation of society inducing helplessness). Because it's the same specific trauma, however, the required 'reinforcement' (on the neuronal level) simply comes from each individual in the group observing each other and even just talking with each other. But they all respond in the same way, so it only 'looks' like 'mass' brainwashing. Plus of course humans are social creatures, so they need to feel part of a group, and that applies equally to sharing the same opinions and feelings.

I also think that's a good insight about the alt media. It follows on from the cognitive infiltration strategy. Given that the genuine 'resistance' is going to come from alternative types (who display more critical thinking and may even be more psychologically robust), it's clear that group needs to be specially targeted. So they establish alt media sites and fake 'conspiracy theorist' influencers and spread 'harmful misinformation' (lol). Which is why a lot of the alt has become disturbingly fascist. It's one of the things I admire about Iain tbh - he's clearly rejected that stuff. In fact, that may be one method of distinguishing a genuine person from a spook - a genuine would not sow discord and right-wing stuff.

So I think you may be right about the blubby bee in the bonnet - this is one of the real problems now - not immediately knowing which ones to trust until after having listened to them for a while. I myself have not been immune to thinking someone was worth listening to to begin with, and it took me a fair while to understand/realise all of this. Probably because I started thinking about all these things before the cognitive infiltration really got going, so this problem didn't really exist then. And it must be virtually impossible for 'new arrivals' to have even the slightest clue what or who to believe. To call it a minefield is an understatement.

Maybe that's another requirement - a list of bona fides.

So yes, I do think this is a targeted and systematic operation. I certainly haven't watched any mainstream 'news' for at least more than a decade now, or any TV for that matter. The most I'll do is watch a movie online at entirely my own discretion. Similarly I haven't really watched any alt media stuff either. It is quite amazing and how refreshing/clean one's mind can be by only choosing to read stuff instead of watch. Then there's the period of respites which greatly help...
