Follow up to the psychology of these spooks, and how to approach them.
One of the first things a good arts of espionage teacher will talk about is game theory in the psychological sense - the simplest version of which is just think from your opponent's point of view.
Applying this here, we can begin to imagine them visually. Most of them are juniors, new recruits who have been given the totally bum job of spending hours on the internet annoying people. Given that most spooks are spoiled rich kids from private schools with ideas above their station most of them will think this work is beneath them (Dunning-Kruger effect and all that). They will also be very emotionally and psychologically immature. So they'll get pissed off quite easily.
There are, therefore, two ways one can respond to them (aside from just ignoring them, of course). Option one is that you taunt them back - that's to say you laugh at them and tease them for being a bunch of junior spooks with a seriously bullshit job and probably TTS (tiny todger syndrome) - say stuff like 'still on the troll desk, eh? Not good enough to be promoted to really interesting, juicy espionage work yet? been passed over for promotion have you? Supervisor a bit of a bully is he?' and so on. Especially the laughing at them - that's going to serious annoy them, they'll get all emotional, make mistakes, post stuff in ALL CAPS and generally get into trouble with their supervisor. (Or, granted, just block you - which is also a win).
Option two, paradoxically enough, is to be really nice to them. Remember they have a really, really awful working day to get through, and are almost certainly utterly reliant on narcotics and alcohol, and probably stuff their faces full of takeaway food, which can't be healthy for them. So, do what they don't expect - make friends, be nice, make their working day that much more pleasant. Eventually, you might even get to engage them in spook stuff itself. With a knowing nod, of course. Obviously you'd have to be a good actor to pull that one off.
Actually, on that note, there is an option three which is that you pretend to be a spook yourself. Of course that could be a sort of double bluff, but remember these are juniors with very little clearance level, so they don't have a sufficient need-to-know yet. You'd have to be quite accomplished to pull off option three though, and they can always ask their supervisor to check the files on you, so this option might be short-lived unless you can bluff your way through it - 'Of course I'm not on the file - my position as an agent is entirely different to yours. Different section old boy, you know.'
Anyway - a good counter-subversion officer would concur with me on those points I wouldn't wager - so rather than get all upset by these people, which is what they want to happen - give them a taste of their own medicine, kind of thing. This is what I mean by a concerted, solidarity approach to them, a kind of counter-subversion cadre. They are, after all, these spooks, in the final analysis, simply a bunch of subversives...
This is all rather fascinating stuff, and quite an insight into the method. Just what I wanted on a Sunday morning to get my brain working.
The old mantra about not feeding trolls sort of applies, but then again, the opposite can also be true - 'keep the trolls occupied' - it would, indeed, be most bodacious fun to establish a counter-army to simply keep them engaged and pinned down, Maskirovka style. Anyway - I think it's important to remember the psychology in all this. There are some real positives here. It becomes a vicious reinforcement cycle and it must be seriously disaffective for their brains. Eventually they will get so screwy that they won't be able to think straight and the whole thing will come crashing down around them.
I would imagine they do it in shifts, however - no one could keep it up for long as a continuous job, even with regular snorts. They'd have to take respite breaks on a regular basis. Which means they'd have to keep switching between uppers and downers, which simply exacerbates the mental health issues.
